BUILDING A BETTER FUTURE: OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY IN CONSTRUCTION

Sustainability in construction is reshaping how Australia builds

At Neumann Steel, we're helping to shape a steel industry that doesn't just build for today, but builds for generations to come. For over 50 years, we've manufactured steel reinforcement - strengthening our commitment to a more sustainable future.

Guided by strong Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, our approach tackles the issues that matter most to our business, stakeholders, and the environment, identified through a thorough materiality assessment.

We are committed to achieving Net Zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050.

By combining innovation, collaboration, and transparent reporting, we are helping to shape a more sustainable steel industry that balances performance with responsibility and creates lasting value for future generations.

OUR COMMITMENT

Building a Greener Future Starts with Bold Action

Our materiality assessment shows where we can create the greatest impact. Here's where we're focusing our sustainability efforts:

  • Reducing emissions across our operations and supply chain.
  • Improving energy efficiency in our manufacturing processes.
  • Maximising the use of recycled, renewable, and responsibly sourced materials.
  • Creating a safe, inclusive, and diverse workplace for our team.
  • Making a positive impact on the communities where we operate.

Shaping Tomorrow with Responsible Construction

The construction industry has a significant environmental footprint, and we're taking responsibility for ours. Through sustainable material choices, energy-efficient manufacturing, and continuous innovation, we're working to reduce our impact while delivering the quality and performance you expect.

We work closely with our supply chain partners to develop products and processes that reduce environmental impact while maintaining the structural integrity and quality needed for the industry. Our team provides sustainable steel reinforcement solutions that meet Australian certification standards and are designed for structures built to last.

INNOVATIVE PRODUCTS FOR SUSTAINABLE BUILDING PRACTICES

Over the years, we've introduced products that reflect our commitment to sustainability. RIBWIRE® and RIBMESH® remain widely used across construction projects. Our NuPod system, winner of the 2021 HIA Australian GreenSmart Product of the Year, is an alternative to traditional polystyrene waffle pods made from 100% Australian recycled plastic.

NuPod addresses several challenges in sustainable construction. It reduces concrete blowouts, stacks efficiently for site storage, and diverts plastic waste from landfill.

Beyond our products, we're continually evaluating our manufacturing processes, looking for opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce waste throughout our operations.

BEYOND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

OUR COMMITMENT TO TACKLING MODERN SLAVERY

Respecting and upholding human rights across our operations and supply chain is fundamental to our vision of a sustainable business. Tackling modern slavery is not only a legal obligation but also a moral responsibility that underpins our commitment to ethical, fair, and safe working conditions for all.

We are committed to identifying, preventing, and addressing any risks of modern slavery in our supply chain through transparent reporting, ongoing supplier engagement, and continuous improvement.

SUSTAINABILITY IN ACTION

Taking action is central to our sustainability journey. From reducing emissions and increasing recycled content to enhancing workplace safety, diversity, and community engagement, each initiative reflects our commitment to creating lasting value for people, the planet, and our industry.

THE INDUSTRY SHIFT: FROM OPTIONAL TO ESSENTIAL

Sustainability is reshaping how Australia builds. Australia’s mandatory climate-related financial disclosure regime commenced for large entities from 1 January 2025 and is being phased in for other in-scope reporting entities. In parallel, sustainability frameworks such as Green Star and the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) rating scheme are increasingly being used to meet evolving customer and market expectations.

This shift brings practical benefits:

  • Lower operating costs through energy-efficient designs and materials.
  • Enhanced asset value as sustainable buildings command premium prices.
  • Easier compliance with strengthening building codes.
  • Greater resilience against bushfires, floods, and heatwaves.
  • Access to government incentives for green building projects.

As the industry works towards net-zero targets, choosing the right materials and partners has never been more important, as the decisions made today determine the environmental legacy we leave for tomorrow.
