How Our Sustainability Journey Began

Since our founding in 1970, we’ve always been dedicated to quality, innovation, and reliability. But as industries and communities began prioritising sustainability, we knew we had to evolve. We saw an opportunity to reduce our environmental impact while still delivering the high-quality steel we’re known for.

Making the shift wasn’t just a business decision—it was a responsibility. By reassessing our processes, investing in sustainable practices, developing eco-friendly products, and challenging ourselves to do better, we’ve been able to make real, measurable changes in how we operate.

In our interview with RDA Gold Coast’s CEO, Estella Rodighiero, we discussed the key moments that sparked our sustainability transformation, the innovations we’ve implemented, and the steps we’re taking to ensure we continue leading the way in green steel manufacturing.

Sustainability at the Core of What We Do

Sustainability is embedded in everything we do at Neumann Steel. As the third largest solar installer in South-East Queensland, we’re proud to lead by example in the transition to renewable energy. We’ve invested in cleaner, more efficient production methods, reduced waste, and incorporated recycled materials into our processes. These efforts not only improve our operations—they also help drive a more sustainable future for the construction industry.

These efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. We’re proud to have received industry recognition and awards for our sustainability initiatives, and we see this as just the beginning. Our goal is to keep raising the bar and proving that sustainable manufacturing isn’t just possible—it’s essential.

Putting People First: Safety and Community Well-Being

While our commitment to sustainability is strong, our focus on people is our priority. Our employees are at the heart of our business and our greatest assets. Their safety is our top priority.

We’ve built a culture where safety comes first, and we’re always looking for ways to improve our processes to protect our team. Beyond that, we believe in supporting the communities we operate in – whether it’s through local partnerships, sponsorships, or initiatives that drive positive change.

Advice for Businesses Starting Their Sustainability Journey

If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that sustainability is a journey, not a destination. For other businesses looking to make their operations more sustainable, we always say: start small and build from there.

You don’t have to overhaul everything overnight. Look for areas where you can make incremental improvements – whether it’s reducing waste, using recycled materials, or improving energy efficiency. Every step counts, and over time, those small changes add up to something big.

Most importantly, embrace innovation. The solutions that worked in the past may not be the best for the future, and the construction industry is constantly evolving. By staying open to new ideas and sustainable practices, we can all play a role in creating a cleaner, more responsible industry.
