Quick overview of the role
This position is responsible for setting up and operating machinery to cut and bend steel into structural shapes, specified by work order, drawings, templates or layout as relevant to the relevant machine. This will involve setting up the machine, monitoring the production process, and making adjustments as needed to ensure that the rebar shapes are produced to the required specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting pre-start checks on all equipment and machinery before it is used
  • Reporting any faults to your Manager or Supervisor immediately
  • Responsible for operation, loading and unloading steel bars, operating controls, setting bend angles and inspection of quality parts in accordance with requirements
  • Operating all machine and using any relevant equipment in a safe manner as stated in the TAP
  • Arrange machine at the beginning the shift to ensure that everything is in order
  • Select all layouts, templates and check fixtures
  • Select all tools and bending dies appropriately
  • Examine completed steel pieces for defects, such as chipped edges or any sort of defective pieces according to type of product
  • Place finished steel pieces on a rack or pallet with the tag prior to load in accordance with the schedule
  • Identify, properly tag and remove non-conforming materials
  • Performs general clean-up of the work area at the end of the shift including sweeping the floor and emptying the bins
