This year’s International Women’s Day theme, Give to Gain, reminds us that progress is built through what we actively give, our time, our respect, our encouragement and our support. When people feel supported to thrive, the benefits are shared by everyone in business and the community.
At Neumann Steel, this message is reflected in our company values, and uniquely in the voices and experiences of women across our teams.
We see International Women’s Day as an opportunity to recognise the contributions of women across our business and to reflect on how the actions we take every day help create a workplace and community that is respectful, supportive, and inclusive for everyone.
For many women at Neumann Steel, inclusion and support show up in practical, everyday ways, not just annual reminders.
Erin, our transport coordinator, is a relatively new addition to Neumann Steel. Though she’s worked in the transport sector for most of her career, she said she’s confident she made the right choice when she joined Neumann Steel.
“We’re all different. We’ve got all different personalities, and we come from different backgrounds, we all work in harmony and do our job, get the steel out and come home safely at the end of the night,” Erin said.

She encouraged other women who are considering working in manufacturing and transport not to hesitate when considering applying to Neumann Steel.
“The team is great, they respect and look after women, and they encourage them, so I would say just do it.”
In an industry traditionally seen as male dominated, women continue to build successful and rewarding careers across operations, logistics, customer service and leadership roles.
Zoe, our logistics coordinator, highlighted the importance of visibility and confidence.
“Women do really well [in this industry],” Zoe said. “It’s always good to see more women coming into these roles and these areas, standing their ground and making it their own.”
That sense of belonging and shared purpose is echoed across the business.
Ashlee, customer service officer, echoed Zoe’s sentiment about it being a great choice for women looking to be a part this family-owned local business of more than 50 years.
“There are absolutely places for women here. You might see high vis and see lots of guys, but we look out for each other,” Ashlee says. “That’s what I really love about Neumann Steel, is the fact that we do feel like one big family. Everyone that comes together at the end of the day and makes you feel like you’ve got your hand in something special.”

In her International Women’s Day message to our team, Kathy Bartley, General Manager of Neumann Steel, spoke about the importance of inclusion and wellbeing as shared responsibilities across our business.
“Women often balance complex demands across work, family and community, and these pressures can affect wellbeing in ways that are not always visible,” Kathy said.
Creating spaces where people feel supported, heard, and able to look after their health helps us work better together.
In fact, Zoe can attest to this, not only is she busy in her role as our logistics coordinator, she’s also a parent to five children.
“It’s always a juggle but Neumann Steel looks after me,” Zoe said with a smile. “They’re very understanding that I have a big family, and they do understand when I need to take a step back and look after my family.”

Supporting wellbeing also extends beyond the workplace.
Neumann Steel is proud to support RizeUp, an organisation providing practical support to women and families affected by domestic and family violence. Feeling safe, supported and secure is fundamental to health and wellbeing, and RizeUp’s work helps create the stability people need to heal and move forward.
International Women’s Day also serves as a reminder that positive work culture is shaped by everyday actions.
“That may be through listening more closely, supporting flexible and healthy ways of working, mentoring and encouraging others, or simply checking in on a colleague… Small, consistent actions build cultures where people can thrive.” Kathy said.
We’re proud of the women and men across Neumann Steel who bring leadership, expertise and commitment to their work every day, and who share responsibility for supporting wellbeing and opportunity.
